The Cottage Gardens Galleries

The 2009 Gardens at the Cottage. : Laurie and I arrived at the cottage on the evening of May 12th, always anxious to check out how the garden is coming along. What a sight! First, there was a beautiful stand of Trillium, they looked as if snow had just fallen. Gosh, it was a blanket of white! This particular part of our garden has always been protected to give the Trillium as much undisturbed growing space as possible. After being bowled over by the Trillium display we continued our garden tour. It was just beautiful, and it was a quick and forceful reminder as to why we make those long trips from Florida each year. It was really tough to leave Florida this year as were were having a beautiful spring there. But we now know why!

This gallery is a collection of photographs of our garden that Laurie and I have made, but it does include some photographs made of the surrounding area. As the summer moves along, we will be splitting the collection to have one gallery which is made up solely of pictures of our garden, and the other will be of the surrounding area.

Spring 2008 at the Cottage on Charleston Lake, May 13 - June 20th : We arrived at the Cottage on May 13th, just at dark. We, of course, are always anxious to take a ride in the garden as soon as we can but because of the time, we only got to see a small portion of it before nightfall. However, what we could see, created enough excitement that we were out of bed early the next morning for a cup of coffee and a golf cart ride through the trails. Gosh, we were so pleased. Some 6000 or so Hosta were leaping out of the ground, tulips were in full bloom, and many perennials. Laurie and I are always amazed at the color of Spring! Enjoy! We will be editing and dropping out a number of the pictures in order to make room for others as the Spring garden continues to mature. This gallery stops with the last official day of Spring, June 20th. Pictures made after that day are located in the Summer Garden Gallery.

By the way, you will see a "buy" photo button over the pictures. We are not in the photo selling business or any business but we do order our prints from SmugMug as they do nice job on Kodak paper.

The 2008 Summer Garden at The Cottage, June 21 - September 20th. : The gardens made a nice transition from a spring time mode to the summer mode. The spring and summer of 2008 was very wet meaning two things, did not have to do much watering but had a fiece battle with the garden pests which thrive in dampness, mainly the slugs. We did get distracted to some extent this summer as we started our new water fall project which consisted of a new garden bridge over this small ravine, and then constructing our stream and water falls. The project took several weeks carrying over into the fall. And there will me additional work on the project in 2009.

Fall 2008 in the Cottage Gardens, September 22 until we left on October 15th : We were so busy with the water fall project that our photography fell behind in documenting the fall garden. And then we left on the 15th of October for the trip back south. But there are some nice shots of the water fall project and some of the golden hosta leaves.

Laurie and I want to thank those who helped us make the 2008 cottage garden season the "best",- John Poldervaart, Phil Campbell, and Martial Chuard. Without their help, it would not have been possible.
