Charleston Lake Winter 2012 by Janet Palmer
Beautiful Photography by our Linden neighbor, Janet Palmer
This past Thursday night it was wet and cold at our paradise, Charleston Lake. An inch of ice formed and then it started snowing and continued all night and all day and night on Friday, with the skies clearing on Saturday morning. Our Charleston Lake neighbors and friends, Janet and Bob Palmer, ventured out from their home in Gananoque to check out the sights. Janet, an accomplished photographer, took along her trusty Nikon D50 and made pictures along the way. They first headed out the 1000 island Parkway, then to Landon Bay, on through Lansdowne to the Outlet, where Janet made wonderful pictures of the mist coming off the water. They continued driving to a friend's land, and then headed on to Paradise, turning right on Woodvale Road, stopping by the Provincial Park, and on to Linden Estate. You will see a great collection of pictures Janet made for us to share. After leaving Linden Estates they headed on down the road and captured Bison feeding and sheep fighting for a meal.
And as I was typing this headnote, I got another email from Janet. It said:
"Hi Cicero We were back out to the lake Sunday so Bob could plow out the driveway and the Grandkids could sled. I walked around this time rather than drive and stopped and got a lot more pictures. Some are the same as the day before but the day was much sunnier and they were taken later in the day which makes them look different. Anyway, here are a few more for you to look at. I just love it out there when everything is covered in snow. " Janet
And thus, another 14 pictures were added to this wonderful album. Thanks, Janet, for sharing your beautiful photographs! And folks, if you enjoyed the pictures, how about dropping Janet a note. That might excite her to share more with us over this winter. Her e-mail is janetpalmer@sympatico.ca.
I just simply could not sit by and not include a picture I snapped of Spike's Falls through a web cam mounted on a tree. Of course, when I snapped the picture, I was sitting in warmth some 1400 miles away in Florida. Technology is just amazing.
Marie and John Poldervaart, just escaped the storm by Thursday morning just before things started icing up, heading for a short and well deserved vacation in Florida. It is a good thing they left when they did because the next day I-81 was just about impassible down to Syracuse. But the rest of the story is that Shawn Leakey stepped in and manned the snow plow and has the laneways in great shape. During one of the plowing sessions, he ran it for about five hours straight. Thanks, Shawn for a job well done. Now Marie and John were relaxing in the sun and having appropriate "refreshments" while you were freezing your rear! And our fearless leader and President Jerry Klaben was down in Fort Myers Beach basking in the sun with his wife, Carol! He is just trying to get a nice suntan to stand out in the snow!
Wow, how lucky can we be to have the opportunity to spend our summers at Charleston Lake.
